A round robin, every pair playing every other, with the two best records meeting in a championship. Nothing of it survives below the finishing order -- no matchup, no series score, no game.

Pairs, not picks: the free-for-all's best finisher went with its worst and so on inward -- 1st with 8th, 2nd with 7th, 3rd with 6th, 4th with 5th -- each team seeded on its stronger partner's finish. The plan had seeds 1 through 4 coming from a 1v1 bracket, which was never played, so all four pairs came off the free-for-all.
